Aircraft recovery from the crops

As weather, flying time and the spring crop come around again, we would like to remind members that our club sites continued operation depends on our diligence in minimising damage to the crops we fly over, and sometimes have to retrieve from.

If you do lose your aircraft in the field please take all efforts to protect the crop while recovering it.
These tips may help:

  • As soon as your aircraft goes down, keep your eye on the spot where it went in and lay your TX down with the (retracted) aerial pointing in that direction to help fix the location.
  • Enlist the help of other members in directing you to that spot by the most effective route.
  • Wherever possible follow the existing tractor tracks that run E-W across the field.
If you do need to cut across or venture into the crop, try to find and use previously trodden paths rather than creating your own.
  • Walk in such a way to minimise disturbance to the crop.
  • Recover all parts of the aircraft, however small.
